TWD: Plum Upside Down Cake

This was supposed to be a nectarine upside down cake.I had some plums that were too sour for snacking, so I used those instead. It turned out pretty well. I had a hard time telling for sure when the cake was done, so I think I undercooked it. The middle fell down after it came out of the oven. Oh well, at least it still tasted pretty good!

The layers of plums looked so pretty that I had to take a picture!
The recipe can be found at the double trouble kitchen or the little french bakery

This wasn't the most photogenic cake, but it was delicious.

  1. Hi Sara, thank you for visiting my blog and commenting.
I am so pleased that you liked it, which I unfortunately really couldn't (I swear, I made my best! :-) ) ... I love plums!

    All the best.

  2. Yeah, I agree, not the most photogenic cake! I took a heck of a lot of photos to get a few decent ones. Mine took a lot longer in the oven than the recipe stated. Glad you enjoyed...it sounds lovely with plums :)

  3. Using the plums was a great idea - this was great recipe for using up fruit that wasn't quite pristine enough to eat on its own.
I am sure it was absolutely delicious!

  7. Plums would be a great addition. I think several bakers struggled with the time. I baked mine in a smaller pan--and some in a 6 inch pan. It still baked longer than the recipe stated.
But it was a delicious cake!

  12. My middle fell also. It's just a thing with upside down cakes, I think. Anyway, I bet this was delish.

  16. It looks great. I am not sure I baked mine correctly either, it was kind of a trickier one I thought. Taste is all that matters though! I bet the plums were delicious!

  17. I'm hesitant to make this with so many bakers having problems with it being underbaked and falling! I will be making this this weekend, also using plums. At least it tasted good!

    1. Just make sure to bake it until the toothpick is 100% clean. I usually take mine out when it's just a little moist, and that was wrong for this cake.
